The St. Luke the Blessed Surgeon Church, is the local parish community of the Russian Church Abroad (ROCOR).
The Orthodox Church is the “One Holy Apostolic” Church, which consists of individual churches that have historically developed along ethnic and geographic boundaries, such as the Orthodox Churches in Russia, Greece, Romania, Serbia and other countries.
The Russian Orthodox Church of St. Luke, the Blessed Surgeon of Crimea, is part of the Eastern American Diocese and was founded with the blessing of the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, Metropolitan Hilarion.
Several years ago, in honor of Saint Luke, a small Mission was organized to Coconut Creek. The Mission lost its lease in early 2020.
On the initiative and with the main sponsorship of the family of Alexei and Ekaterina Lukyanov, in March 2020, the new building was leased to go beyond the Mission and organize a full-fledged parish.
It was reconstructed and turned into a new beautiful Church, where the first Divine Service was held on Easter 2020.
The new building of the Church has a choir, a refectory, a kitchen, an office, a room for rehearsals and meetings. The church is fully equipped with everything necessary for conducting divine services, a choir has been created, the sisterhood prepares and invites parishioners and guests to a meal after Sunday services.
Services are held in Church Slavonic and English.
In the coming years, it is planned to create a large spiritual and cultural center, where a parish hall, a parish house, a kindergarten, a school and condominiums, which may belong to believers, will be built at the head of the Church.
Given the scale and plans of the Church of St. Luke, in November 2020, Archpriest from Milwaukee (originally from Ukraine) Father Vasily Zelenyuk, was appointed by Metropolitan Hilarion to the parish and was appointed Rector in January 2021 to jointly organize a spiritual and cultural center in the Southeast parts of Florida.
